    Description

Original large-format color lithographed map published in the July 12, 1943 edition of the
    Los Angeles Times.
The map measures a generous 22¾" x 16½" and the headline in the upper margin reads:  "Rabaul Threatened as Yanks March Through New Georgia."
Text and illustrations on the map show the early stages of the New Georgia campaign, a series of land and naval battles which began with the Allied attack on the Japanese airfield at Munda, on the western coast of New Georgia island.
Munda Point was captured in early August, three weeks after this map was printed. Rabaul, which had been occupied by Japanese forces since February 1942, was ultimately neutralized by the Allies rather than captured.
Among the other named places and features on the map are Port Moresby, Guadalcanal, Ramada Bay, Vangunu, Bougainville Island, New Ireland, Buna, Kula Gulf, Viru Harbor, Coral Sea, New Britain, Santa Isabel Island, and Lae, New Guinea.
    Condition:
This map is in very good condition, bright and clean, lightly folded, with a tiny hole at the center and
    no
marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
The map is on a full-page newspaper broadsheet, with text and ads on the reverse side.
