What is the Canine Cryptosporidium
(Cryptosporidium Canis)
?
The
Cryptosporidium spp is a Nasty Type of Coccidia that is
resistant to the traditional
Coccidia medications, and it tends to kill puppies that are on
Coccedia
prevention protocol
, but at the same time have created a void of no competition for Crypto to multiply. This is a viable theory in young animals.
In the past, treating the regular Coccidia (
Cystoisospora spp)
in dogs used to be somewhat a particular routine, this type of Coccidia
has been sulfa-responsive and easily managed, however, In the last few years, veterinarians have been seeing small Coccidia type, This new Coccidia type
(Cryptosporidium spp)
is so small that it is difficult to see under a microscope! Veterinarians thought this may be something new and pursued a diagnosis from a state lab. The labs determined that what they were seeing was Cryptosporidium. Cryptosporidium spp is from the Coccidia family, but it is not the same parasite and is not responsive and resistance to the regular Coccidia treatment protocol.
Screening for infection:
A routine fecal flotation test, as is recommended once or twice a year for most pets, is likely to miss Cryptosporidium as it is such a small organism. At the present time more specialized testing such as PCR testing for Cryptosporidium DNA or ELISA tests for Cryptosporidium proteins are the best way to go but these tests were developed to detect the Cryptosporidium species that infect humans so there may be some issues with sensitivity, however, the new Canine Crypto Ag rapid Test is a good diagnostic tool that can be used.

Intended use of the Test:
Cryptosporidium is a common intestinal parasite that affects not only dogs, cats, cattle, but also human beings. It can cause symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, gas, and abdominal discomfort in Animals.
Specification:
- The Cryptosporidium Antigen Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Cryptosporidium parvum antigen (Crypto Ag) in animal’s feces or vomit specimen.
- Assay Time: 5-10 minutes
Principle:
The Canine Cryptosporidium Antigen Rapid Test is based on sandwich lateral flow Immunochromatographic assay.
Expiration date:
10/10/2022
Test Procedure:
1- Collect dog’s fresh feces or vomit with the provided cotton swab stick
2- Insert the swab into the provided assay buffer tube, agitates it to get efficient sample extraction.
3- Take out the Test strip from the foil pouch and place it horizontally.
4- use the provided dropper and aspirate 3 drops of the sample diluent extraction and add them into the Test sample hole “S”.
5- Interpret the result at 5-10 minutes. Result after 10 minutes is considered invalid.
Interpretation of the Result:
- Positive (+):
The presence of both “C” line and zone “T” line, no matter "T" line is clear or vague.
- Negative (-): Only clear "C" line appear. No "T" line.
- Invalid: No colored line appears in "C" zone. No matter if "T" line
appears.
Precautions:
1- All reagents must be at room temperature before running the assay.
2- Do not remove test cassette from its pouch until immediately before
use.
3- Do not use the test beyond its expiration date.
4- The components in this kit have been quality control tested as standard batch unit. Do not mix components from different lot numbers.
