  • Condition: (1) The War Map is lightly soiled and has short tears at the edge of each of the folds from repeated unfolding and refolding; and (2) the World War II postcard is lightly age-toned, very lightly soiled, with a couple of creases, unposted, with NO inscriptions/notations.

    Description

    Offered for sale:  (1) a Lowell Thomas' War Map Of the World, no date but circa early to mid 1940's, Chicago:  Rand McNally & Company, Publishers, and issued by the Sunoco Oil Company, the map measures 19 1/2" X 26 3/4" unfolded, and about 5" X 9" folded, a Good-Very Good copy (see "Condition Description" section for full details), there are actually 4 full-colored maps, 2 on each side:  (1) a map of the Far East;  (2) a map of Southern Europe, the Mediterranean Area and the Near East; (3) War Map Of Pacific Ocean and the Far East;  and (4) War Map Of Atlantic Ocean Area Eurasia and Africa, the maps give such information as:  areas occupied by the Allies;  areas occupied by the Axis;  Allied Bases Or Stations;  Axis Bases Or Stations;  Neutral Or Non-Belligerent Bases;  Lend-Lease Routes; Air Distances; and S. S. Distances, "in the interest of National defense certain vital military establishments have been omitted";  and (2) a World War II Postcard (unposted), no date given but circa early to mid 1940's , the card is in Very Good condition (see "Condition Description" section for full details), card is entitled:  "Who Stands In Need Of Security? France ?, the card gives the distribution of forces on Germany's western frontier (peace strength), broken down into infantry division, cavalry division, infantry battalion, cavalry squadron, machine gun battalion, light and heavy artillary groups, tanks battalion, demilitarized zone, etc.
