NBA Hall of Famer "Pistol Pete" Maravich was a spectacular showman who helped open up the game of basketball in the 1970's.  One of the NBA's 50 Greatest players, Pete played 10 productive seasons in the NBA, earning five trips to the NBA All-Star Game and one league scoring title.
Maravich died suddenly at age 40 during a pick-up game as a consequence of a previously undetected congenital heart defect. One of the youngest players ever inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Maravich was cited by the Hall as "perhaps the greatest creative offensive talent in history."  In an April 2010 interview, Hall of Fame player John Havlicek said "the best ball-handler of all time was Pete Maravich.
