Description
New Mexico Kitsch: Seven (Pairs) of Salt-and-Pepper ShakersThese shakers were acquired in the 1990s as we traveled in the "Land of Enchantment." They use stereotyped imagery to evoke the state and its rich heritage; many were actually manufactured abroad in Taiwan in the 1950s-60s (?). Here is a listing:
(1-2) "New Mexico Zia" with cactus handle, blue-grey glaze painted in yellow and red. Height - 2.5 inches.
(3) "New Mexico Longhorn & Chief," brown glaze with relief. Height - 2.25 inches.
(4-5) "Barrel Cacti with Flowers," green glaze on actual cactus stand. Length - 6 inches; height - 2.5 inches. Cork stoppers. Inscription in white reads "
Prewitt,
New Mexico."
(6-7) "New Mexico Lariat and Brands Motif" in green glaze. Height: - 2.25 inches; no stoppers.
(8) "New Mexico" three-medallions in white, decal decor and gold trim. Height: -2.5 inches.
(9-10) "New Mexico Road Runner," milk can-shape in white, gold trim. Height - 3 inches.
(11-12) "New Mexico Road Runner & Cactus," pitcher-shape in white, gold trim. Height - 2 inches.
-- Last two pairs have stickers: "Made in Taiwan."
