VERY NICE FRAMED SUBMARINER SERVICE CERTIFICATE FOR W. DUDLEY
A few months ago I obtained at auction this very nice, framed, WWII service certificate for W. Dudley who served in the submarine forces of the US Navy during WWII.  The overall frame is 11 3/4" x 14 3/4".  There is some toning and slight staining to the base of the certificate but overall I would rate the condition as Very Good.  On the back of the frame is a reference to a William L. Dudley, Pulaski, Virginia July, 1946 which could be the date of his receipt of this certificate.
The certificate states in part:
These submarine forces wrought severe destruction upon the enemy.  They sank many million tons of his merchant and naval shipping.  They interrupted and severed his trade and communication arteries, they aided every amphibious assault, supplied constant military intelligence of the enemy, and performed numerous acts of rescue.  They participated in many phases of anti-submarine development and hastened domination of Atlantic waters by navies of the Allied powers.  In these ways the submarine forces of the U.S. Navy, and all who served with them, contributed heavily to the successful and complete prosecution of the War.
Given the reference to Atlantic waters, most likely this is a submarine certificate for the European theater of war.
